Personal Training vs group based training

Personal Training vs Group Based Training

It’s summertime, and everyone seemingly wants to own a perfect summer body. You may already be a part of a diet/fitness regime but are confused as to what really will give you long-term effective results. The truth is that what training works best for you will depend on your goals and personality. Let’s do a comparison here and find out.

Personal training

The first question that comes to our mind- is fitness personal?

From our experience, we’ve found that personal training can be the ideal option for quickly and effectively getting into shape, especially for people who are new to fitness and exercise or are suffering from any disease/ abnormality. Additionally, personal training gives personalized supervision from your trainer. This is great for motivation and getting the basics right.

Also, when you’re talking about personal training, it is mandatory for personal trainers to have credible certifications. However, this remains an option for instructors who conduct group training sessions. The added benefit of a personal trainer is that they are usually specified in the domain that they teach in. For example, if a trainer is great at core training, he may have limited knowledge about yoga training. He is a specialist and will cater to your specific needs.

While this may look like the smallest thing, it definitely creates a lot of value.

Group Training

Group training is a great way to achieve your fitness goals. A lot of the times, your peers may provide you the motivation and guidance that you could not pick up from your trainer. The relations you make with your peers will inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and participation in you, which definitely gives better long-term results.

In a group, the instructor can teach and provide a more holistic and dynamic group exercise experience. While all participants may not remember every exercise after class, they will certainly pick up the habit of doing an exercise right with discipline both from the instructor and peers. Thus, it is a two-way interactive learning session, which promotes sportsmanship among fitness lovers.

Fitness is mainly about strength and conditioning. Strength-based training comprises more of technicalities and requires a high level of skill. In conditioning, we mainly work out our vitals with low skill exercises.

So, what should you go for?

Group training comes with great group dynamics which motivates and makes us more accountable, and this is a great experience if you want to work out with other people. It works when groups are smaller. The larger the group, the less likely you will be able to pick anything at all.

It is useful to think of personal training only when you have some serious fitness goals to achieve, or are suffering from an injury or a delicate health condition. This is a slightly more expensive option but it gives you perks like a fully personalized training session that is suited to your BMI and body type.
